The resort's origins go back to 1863 when Simon Schneitter emigrated with his family from Switzerland to Utah. To create and build Zermatt Resort, Dr. Fuller took architects, engineers and designers back to these European countries for the actual design and planning of the resort. In fact, many of its main features, such as the beautiful 20' high lobby fireplace with William Tell and Swiss Canton (state) crests, plus German wood carvings were created and carved in Oberammergau, Germany.
